In ancient legend the Chicken Blood Stone is the blood of the phoenix, hence the stone is also known as the “Phoenix Blood Stone”. It is a “good-luck stone” said to be able to ward off evil power and help one prosper. It was the favourite stone of many emperors and is widely collected by distinguished officials, businessmen, and art collectors. The Changhua Chicken Blood Stone is a rare mineral product of China and is classified as “Jade” in the classification of gems. Since Ming Dynasty till now, the mining of this stone has been frought with difficulties and extremely hard to find. It is only found in the Jade Mountain located 1000 meters above sea level in Changhua region, Hangzhou City, China, Buried deep in 100 meter high precipice amidst tons of rocks, its scarcity earns it the name "the treasure among treasures". Depleted, the Chinese government has since 1985 banned the mining of this stone. This stone exhibits an amazing range of variations in texture and hue, its colour bright red interspersed with white and dark grains. It has been cherished all along like diamond and pearl.
